Yeah, it’s 1bit time again!!! In order to bring you the true oldschool sound, only the most limited ZX Spectrum beeper software was used – no volume envelopes, no 8 channels, no dirty tricks. Includes two guest tracks by irrlicht project.

VidByter : New MIDIo firmware from VBLANK!
Prototype test video of my new MIDIo Visual board firmware: “VidByter”
This is a new swappable firmware for my DIY MIDIo kit that works with Mac/Win/Linux to capture live video and send it over a USB/Serial cable where it is pushed directly onto the video ram space of a circa 1977 Chip8 RCA “Pixie Video” emulator. The Pixie hardware was found on the COSMAC VIP and several RCA based video “PONG” consoles such as the RCA STUDIO II.

The start is abrupt because there’s no play/stop controls etc. just yet. I’ve still only got 2 tracks working so far and we begin with a sort of bass line on the first (top) track. It’s only using square A as you can see by the little red light in the drum patch next to the ‘A’.The first two notes have a pitch sweep applied by setting trigger values in the pattern to affect the LFO width (with a LFO speed of 00, the LFO effectively is a pitch sweep).
