  • This week on the FMA: 8GB

akira_lowSummer fun is distracting, but we have another FMA profile this week,  8gb:

Speaking of globetrotting, this weeks artist, 8GB is a well seasoned world traveler himself, playing shows throughout Europe and the United States before recently returning to his native Argentina. His style owes far more to the electronic and dance scenes then to anything from retro game music, and you need only checkout this release from 8bitpeoples to get a glimpse of his raw beat making prowess.

  • Little-Scale Sega Midi Updates

    100_0504Nomad

I thought I would mention that my Sega Mega Drive / Genesis MIDI interface is now compatible with the Sega Nomad. Demo video here. As I often say with these sorts of updates, join the Gen/MDM Google Announcements Group to be notified of when this device will be available.

    SN76489

Finally, I’ve had a chance to add support for the SN76489 PSG chip in the Sega Mega Drive for my MIDI interface. The thing I love about the Mega Drive is the FM sound (which is why I’ve been concentrating on that), but of course everyone wants access to the PSG as well. The SN76489 support is basically a port from my Sega Master System MIDI interface, and includes many (but not all) of the latter’s functions and features.

  • Yatagarasu on the The Creepy Touch! Vodcast(NSFW)

Brooklyn (assuming) kids interview the awesome Yatagarasu, in this NSFW   (brief boobies, hipsters) video by the The Creepy Touch

In this episode: Toilet Cobra sits down with Yatagarasu immediately after his performance at the Pogo in Togo party and make him explain how he makes music with Nintendos while he’s putting his stuff away. YOU’VE BEEN TOUCHED!

  • One suffix to rock them all…

More crazy developments from the Plogue Blogue today.  Not only does it look like plgDavid’s hard work will yield the Mother of All Chip VSTs, but also a new file format, too?!?!  Hmmm.  Fight the No News Friday Blues and check out the details on VGMX over here.

  • Chipsounds from Plogue Preview

A bit hyper overview of this long in the works chip vst workstation. Not much new from earlier news, but its worth keeping an eye on, at least.

For one thing, this isn’t your run of the mill plugin like Magical 8bit Plug or what have you… This shit’s as if the awesome from your childhood was concentrated to a weaponized level. Every emulation I’ve heard is spot-on, and I mean REALLY good! Everything you could hope for and more is within this plug. You’ve got your Atari, all variants of Nintendo’s PAPU’s, and I mean All. There’s Intellivision, Commodore 64 (which is the best damned emulation you’ll ever find, period) etc. etc., it’s just insane. If it makes chiptune, it’s in here. Plus, for the chips it applies to, you have NTSC, PAL or (cough atari cough) an unlimited mode, which puts it in tune! It’s almost frightening hearing a 2600 play a western scale! Freaky, huh?
