I had the idea to put this compilation together showcasing all of the talent located in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, San Diego and all the surrounding areas of Southern California that make up the slowly growing SoCal Chip Scene. Some are well known heavy hitters who have played Blip Fest and various international chip shows, and some have never officially released tracks outside of this compilation. We try to put together as many shows as possible and as regularly as possible to showcase this talent, but this compilation is the best way to show outsiders that WE ARE HERE. 2011 is the year of Southern California Chipmusic.

[CDK 050] Comptroller – Baddies

1. Z-Bombs
2. Crack Pinocchio
3. Silver Head
4. Points

“Some say he once crushed a Nintendo Game Boy with his own bare hands, some say he gets his sounds by forcing the souls of his enemies into his LSDJ cart, what is known is that his name is Comptroller, and he hails from Scotland. In this release, Comptroller vanquishes his demons in four intense music journeys, and has somehow brought them into this plane of existance for you to listen to, if you dare.”

4 dense bursts of melodic electrodirt direct from a DMG. Urgent rhythms, dark sounds. Available for free download here:

“Shhh, Architecture” by Falling For A Square.

All of the songs were written using Nanoloop 2.01 on a gameboy micro, an electric guitar, Glocken Jr,Moogie, and a little Casio SK-1.

It’s very soft, comfy, and quietly under-produced.

When I first started composing songs for the record I knew right away what I wanted to album to be called. The instrument editor and multichannel view of nanoloop 2.01 is so minimal and endearing, it felt like my compositions were like tiny musical constructions, and each song held something or someone different.

Thus, “Shhh, Architecture” was born. It was written mainly on commutes to city and quiet nights at home.

Dot.AY wanted to be a paleontologist, instead he makes music on gameboys. This is an EP of dinosaur themed Chip Bass, an exploration in wonky beats, wobbly bass and all in all a LARGE sound. Created entirely using a single Gameboy to try and make the biggest fiercest least Video Game related sounds possible.
