The Nobuooo Kickstarter Project.

Friend of TCTD, chip and game music documentarian and news blogger extraordinaire Jeriaska is running a Kickstarter. He has a vast amount of footage reading like a who’s who of game music composers, a similar trove of footage covering indie game luminaries and most interesting for the chip community a slew of videos from Nullsleep’s Collapsed Desires Tour and he plans to hone it all down to 3 DVDs. You can check out a trailer for the Videogame Music in Context in Japan DVD or the Independent Videogame Music in Context DVD but click on this little video and watch a few worlds get destroyed.

Some words on the tour DVD from Jeriaska

Nullsleep Collapsed Desires Tour DVD: live performances (not interviews) from the 2010 Collapsed Desires Tour, featuring chip music artists Nullsleep, Trash80, Starpause, Crashfaster, Mr. Spastic, and omake bonus material from the 2010 Tokyo Blip Festival. This one contains some swear words, so be prepared for it.

The Kickstarter is mere inches away from its goal, feel free to help out.

I hear rumors there are more great things to come….

VidByter : New MIDIo firmware from VBLANK!

Prototype test video of my new MIDIo Visual board firmware: “VidByter”

This is a new swappable firmware for my DIY MIDIo kit that works with Mac/Win/Linux to capture live video and send it over a USB/Serial cable where it is pushed directly onto the video ram space of a circa 1977 Chip8 RCA “Pixie Video” emulator. The Pixie hardware was found on the COSMAC VIP and several RCA based video “PONG” consoles such as the RCA STUDIO II.

This is the next installment in our ongoing, limited edition visualist t-shirt collection. This second shirt in the series is from NYC based visualist noteNdo aka Jeff Donaldson, whose modified video game console projections have graced the stage of countless chip music shows around the world.

Created in 2001 by preparing an unmodified NES with tin foil, this design is part of the opening sequence for the Goonies II NES title.

X’2010 round up part 1 – Graphics

The X demoparty in Holland happened last weekend, and like every time, it’ s the end-all be-all of Commodore 64 demoparties. Its legendary status has been gained for having breakthroughs in C64 coding happen every time it takes place, and this year it has been no different.

The number of releases in this edition has been very high, showing a welcome rise in C64 demoscene activity and it also has brought back into the scene a lot of well known names from back in the day, who were retired.

I’ll start up with gathering the releases happening in the GRAPHICS competition. I’ll show you my highlights after the jump, in reverse order of personal preference. You can compare with the actual X’ ranking to see how varied each person’s view can be:

Le Avventure Di Marionetti

Thanks to Keff I get a link to this artist, Antonio Glessi, which in the videos that caught my eye, seems to be working with Atari 8-bit computers or maybe Amstrad (more info soon).

Among many things, he made the Marionetti series, of which here’s one video

Very arty and tech-wise maybe not more than a bunch of slideshows, but I like the aesthetics he has coupled with the limitations given by the platform he chose to use.

Check out many more cool videos in his Vimeo link like Giovanotti Mondano Meccanici contre Dracula.
