By Random, on August 26th, 2009 After spring comes summer…
Another top notch compilation from Ubiktune, with 11 tracks by 12 different artists (yes, one collaborative track) made with various platforms.

By Peter Swimm, on August 26th, 2009 While not actually a release per se, I was hurting for some ay goodnes.

This song is actually on the edge of Spectrum’s possibilities, I presume, however I again wanted AY to sound more interesting than normally.I added some bubbling filter-like sounds on the beginning, some other noises on 1:37, extremly hard-to-do playing with two sounds on one oscillator in 2:15 and later pretty funny synthetic sound came out by the way, AY still has its secrets, it seems plus some other various basses and synthetic fluctuating brasses. The most difficult is the ‘2 sounds on one oscillator’ trick. I must DEsynchronize sound to achieve 2 instruments playing in one channel. To tune the melody is kinda torture as only one sound is a real instrument. Another one is only distortion of the original sound but I can make it to play a song, hehe. : However AY has been never designed for that so the tuning is drudgery.

By lazerbeat, on May 7th, 2009 About a month ago, we talked a little about DWD Records and their 2007 Level Up compilation. Now, after an 18 month hiatus they are back with a new URL (http://dwdrecords.org.ua/) and a new release from everyone’s favorite AY wizard, Yerzmyey. The EP is called Interphase and its a 25 minute, 7 track release with a guest tune from Factor6.
What next from DWD?
By Peter Swimm, on December 15th, 2008 From the horse’s mouth:
In 1989 (as a teenager) I bought my first ZX Spectrum (it was Timex 2048 to be precise) and I started to make chiptunes. (Jee, in 2009 it will be already… 20 years!! Fuck, I’m old). First of them were for beeper and then – in 1990 – I bought AY interface and started to make 4bit micromusic. My first songs were really crap and they sound rather like shitty music from 80s games. Then was (I hope) better and better.
This is a chiptune album made on ZX Spectrum 48Kb with AY interface, containing my old traxx made in time I wasn’t so much into the AY synthesis, and used almost only standard square wave.

The album/compilation has been published in December 2008 as a Christmas gift for chiptune-fans, however the songs come from 1998 – 2002 (that’s where the title comes from ). Maybe somebody will be interested.
I didin’t add here my really *old* AY songs (1990-1996) because they are mostly _really_ bad. (They are available somewhere on da Net, in form of Spectrum demos ‘though ).
Merry Christmas for all chiptune/micromusic freakz!!!!

PS: While making a cover-art of this album, I used not only PC (inscriptions) but also ZX Spectrum (these photos are screenshots from Speccy ).
