    Talk about multidisciplinary artists! ;)

  • The Prodigy, 8-Bit style

artistsChatting with my friend Paza Rahm, he showed me a video for a track that he submitted for a compilation. The track in question is part of a big project of these russian guys, who set forth to compile not one, but three albums full of The Prodigy covers and remixes.

The album in question, “Emulator Punks!!“, is the latest installment in these series of three and features mostly eastern european (and unknown to me) artists, producing these tracks with a plethora of methods, from fakebit to full-on Spectrum AY power passing through Paza’s almighty Atari ST. The other two albums, “Pixel Bit Chipology! Classics: Inside” and “”Pixel Bit Chipology! Classics: Outside” are on the same vein and cover a variety of Prodigy tracks as well as showcases even more artists.

A bunch of these tracks are very good and well worth a listen, among which we can find Paza’s previously mentioned track, “Charly”, Capkonamco’s amazing remix of “Baby’s Got A Temper”, Snork25’s take on “What Evil Lurks” and Bulldoza’s gloomingly kick-ass cover of “Poison”

In all, yet another “tribute” album but this time featuring a bunch of artists you usually don’t listen anywhere else, thus removing us a bit from the usual stuff and, even though The Prodigy is “preset techno” as our own Peter Swimm likes to call it, some surprises and nice twists on the originals are to be found.

Long live the Eastern Europe massive!

  • Legowelt, Amiga powered.

    Legowelt goes back to basics
    Legowelt goes back to basics

So, I catched this through Goto80’s amazing Chipflip, and I wanted to post it.

Well known dutch “disco nouveau” formation Legowelt are going to release a new record, entirely made with a bunch of Korg synths, a Roland 808 and an Amiga 1200 computer running Octamed. Why do this today with its limitations? Evidently, there’s something for them that they liked about it. Whatever the motivation was, this is a very nice, gloomy, electro beat (the real electro, not that whatever they call electro nowadays) album that’s going to land a special spot in my collection once acquired. It’s not as “disco-ish” as other Legowelt releases, so think more of their older, electro-oriented releases. You’ll recognize the 808 beats and surrender to their powerful dominance…

I take it that as well as the sequencing of the vintage hardware, the few non-synth samples you hear are being shot from the tracker too. Whatever the method is, it sounds cool. I can already hear the screams of “This is not cheaptoon! Where’s my squarewave!? I’m gonna cry!” and, to be honest, I couldn’t care less about your fundamentalist moaning :).

So, here’s the link where you can check out previews of this album’s 16 tracks. Available for purchase soon through Strange Life Recordings!

  • Mario Paint Composer DS released

mpckeyboardHey people, long time no see!
I been pretty busy with work and stuff, but then again, since South America is not even considered part of the global chipmusic movement, who gives two shits? No need for me to post much here :P

Anyway, I recently acquired an Acekard 2 for my DS, and have been slowly trying to catch up with the homebrew movement (and Phoenix Wright games :P) and I stumbled upon this little fella here: a port of the Mario Paint music composer. Not a big fan of this little gimmick, but I presume some of you people will enjoy its cheesiness.

    Official blurb:

“Mario Paint Composer DS is an indirect remake of the music composer tool found in the Super Nintendo game “Mario Paint” with a few new adaptations which I added in from the PC version created by unFun Games (http://www.unfungames.com/). Please note, I am not responsible for the pc version, these two programs merely share the same name and that is all. This is not a direct port of any version, it is completely coded by myself.”

Paratrooopa has added a bunch of interesting new features and improvements and you can download the results clicking here.
