  • Analog – Cruzando El Cielo (CP-033)

Chippanze records, South America’s one and only low-bit netlabel based in São Paulo, Brazil, hits 33 releases with Chile’s Analog and his new EP, “Cruzando el Cielo”.

    Official blurb:

Certain situations or processes in every day life can be represented as a journey through a barrier that is inside our minds. The sky, in Earth’s gravid moments, has represented an explicit impossibility of surpassing it by our own means. To this effect, we are used to build an axis in which we live – and as if we saw it through a beam of light -, we are capable of overcome difficulties and subvert what’s unattainable. From our memories of a carefree childhood, in communion with the people we love or maybe the desire of grabbing what cannot be gotten a hold of, comes the desire to make this little record”

Get ready for some melodic sugar-ness made with Game Boy and latin powa :P

  • Video Game Orchestra – Bitbotized

In BiTBOTiZED, Videogame Orchestra have taken some of their favourite tracks from the 20th century and re-imagined them as if played and sung by old games consoles and computers. Rather than simple, innocent themes of love, these tracks are now bursting with 8-bit sounds and technological innuendo!

    Tracklist:

    1. Stand By Your RAM
    2. No More Wires, Girl
    3. Goo Goo Stack
    4. Good Glitch
    5. Program Me
    6. Topless Dancers of Corfu
    7. Der Mussolini
    8. Feeling Good
    9. Peerson To Peerson

  • PR8 V0.99 released!

PR8 is a 6-track, pattern-based drum machine that runs on a Nintendo Entertainment System, designed and created by Neil Baldwin.

PR8 is unlike any other NES music application in that it uses ‘virtual’ tracks that are not explicitly linked to any hardware voice.

As a consequence, sounds in PR8 (and by association, each Track) are able to simultaneously use any combination of all five of the NES’s sound-generating voices and a simple priority system is employed to dynamically determine which of the 6 tracks have control over them.

Even though PR8 is referred to as a ‘drum synth’, it is also possible (and quite easy) to create melodic instruments and patterns, though the entry and editing of musical notes is a little more abstracted if you’re used to traditional sequencers or trackers.

Because of this rather radical approach, the learning-curve for PR8 might be a little steep but patience will reward you with a pretty unique and fun way to create NES music.

Amazing drum machine-like softare  PR8 for the NES has been finally released! Neil Baldwin’s long awaited new software, running on Pulsar’s engine, has seen its first public release in a romantic today. Only two emulators run this baby so you better get your NES and Powerpak ready for proper action!

And be sure to read the extensive manual Neil has created before asking daft questions :P

  • Remedmatika – Ekspresimental

The super active and dedicated South East Asia scene brings forth a new release from indonesian Remedmatika, done entirely for the Famicom/NES 2A03.
Usually a scene shrouded in mystery (only because it is far, like South America :P), it is about time you start investigating, because there’s a bunch of cool artists besides JW86 and Ikuma. You can start with other releases from Micro Invasion (and if you are in Jakarta, go party with them)

  • UI – trikitraki

According to UI himself, trikitraki is “unreleased tracks from 2008 to 2010” made with “basically tiny synth-waves and VST instruments, such as ymVST, magical8bit, medusa, casio vl-tone and tons of samples”.

What I actually think trikitraki is, is an excellent collection of tunes, of varied styles, all executed real well, combining cool elements and meticulous beat construction, catering for both the chiptune aficionado and general electronic music listeners alike, all gold-lined by UI’s great attitude regarding his music activity, an example we should see more on the chipmusic scene of today: he’s been holding on to his music for a damn long time until he has got a product of a high enough quality that he considers to be releasable, instead of squirting his first jizz done in Famitracker one week into starting to use the software.

Did I mention he’s also an awesome pixel artist? But for this cover, he let Tristendo do the illustration. The guy knows how to collaborate.

Makes me happy to see such talent coming out of South America, my home land.
