Z80 Music Portal – massive update

Hi there.

Finally I found some time (and life forces) to make a massive update of http://z80.i-demo.pl/ music portal.
Mostly songs by Shiru (13 of them, including 3 re-recorded from real hardware).
Also added – tunes signed by Lamaze P/Hikaru, ne7 and Mister Beep.

Probably I should add more but I am now too exhausted after several hours of recording, testing, www editing and uploading.

I hope You enjoy the music. Maybe within forthcoming days I will record and upload something more.

Greetz,
Yerz

New Spectrum48 1-bit engines

Hi. Last times Shiru released several incredible new sound-engines for ZX Spectrum 48K and its beeper, with various number of channels, various synthesis possibilities, and so on.

I decided to test each and every of them and – here are my results.

OCTODE engine provides 9 channels of sound (8 tones + drums).
Test result:

QCHAN engine allows to use 5 channels (4 tones + drums) with various envelopes of instruments and numerous level of volumes.
Test result

TRITONE engine gives 4 channels (3 tones + drums). Also it gives various modulations and volumes plus pretty rich set of drums.
Test result:

LyndonSharp engine is well-known 1-bit sound engine from 80s. Shiru reverse-engineered it so now it’s usable again. The engine has 3 channels, expressive sound and many cool drums.
tests’ result:

All the engines can be found on WOS forum:

Beepola updated to 1.06

Beepola, a Windows cross-tracker with multiple 1-bit sound engines from ZX Spectrum, has been updated to v1.06. This time there are just few fixes, however some more sound functionality was added too.

Download Beepola v1.06 (825K)

ChangeLog:

– Fixed compatibility with WINE (caused by differences between the way WINE handles waveOut API compared to Windows). This was inadvertently broken in versions 1.03.00 – v1.05.03.
– Improved sound reproduction and timing.
– Added ROMBeep engine as a compile-time only option (see the Beeper Engine dropdown list in the Compile dialog). This is a compact, pseudo 2 channel engine using arpeggios and the BEEP routine from the Spectrum ROM. It will therefore work correctly on 16K Spectrums or in low, contended, memory on other models.

Beepola v1.05

The zx spectrum tracker has been updated to v1.05

Beepola, a Windows cross-tracker with multiple 1-bit sound engines from ZX Spectrum, has been updated to v1.05. The most interesting addition in this version is a new engine, made by Jason C. Brooke in 1988. The version of the engine is taken from Savage game, it has two channels of tone, drums, and many interesting features. This version is dedicated to Jonathan ‘Joffa’ Smith, author of the Special FX engine.
