  • Sounds of the Amiga Vol.1

    Source: CSDb74655

TRIAD, the well-known C64 demogroup, brings us a new production dedicated to the breadbin’s bigger brother (or as they said, “younger cousin” ;D), the Commodore Amiga 500.

A collection of 8 songs, covered from their Amiga MOD originals, transformed from 4 digital channels to 3 synth channels, is what you will find in this nice musicdisk. Ne7 and dalezy are the men behind the musicmaking, while Spot(also from Amiga demogroup Up Rouugh) took care of the graphics, and iopop has crafted the coding.

My disk’s favourites? No Future and Introghost.

  • USB64 SID Slave!

Petter Lindquist a.k.a. Hevosenliha of  MuMu21 has made a great tool for us lovers of pure, unadultered SID sound, but who also love the convenience of today’s hardware.

Using an IDE64 interface (or a home made cable that, allegedly, costs 10 euros to build), a server-type tool on a C64/128 and a modified version of Goattracker, USB64 Sidslave lets you make tracks in GT but have the sound played out in real hardware!

So far running only on Linux, a Windows patch has been sent to Cadaver, creator of GoatTracker, to see if this can be implemented in Windows too (and I bet Mac OS X would work as well)

Here’s looking forward for new improvements on this cheap Hardsid-alternative. VICE support anyone?

  • Best Live Visuals: The C-Men

tctd_best_visualsUnfortunately for us, VJs dedicated to chipmusic are few. This makes any decision a very hard one, since the dedication of every chipmusic-focused VJ is always of high level, for those in these awards and those not mentioned here.

With a consistent output of quality graphics that conform to desirable “laws” of both pixel and graphic design beauty, performed flawlessly in a live environment (paying attention to all details of the show), a track record of more than 10 years in the game (yes, dedicated to chipmusic VJing, for all those who think this started in 2006) and a hardware setup still unique, plus his huge influence in the 8-bit scene as a whole (a key player in the euro scene’s development), The C-Men takes the prize deservedly and hopefully will deliver a load more visual content for us to enjoy in any of the global locations where he performs.

  • Best Demo: Doctor by Trilobit

tctd_best_demoDeciding on this category was harsh. Not wanting to go with what would be an “obvious choice” (Edge of Disgrace), the decision was made upon something a bit more fresh.

Atari 2600 demos are not very numerous and this one is done with sheer grace and powerful coding marvel. Couple it to nice beats coming out of the limited A2600 TIA (a feat on its own to compose music for this thing) and funny texts (how can we forget Dr. Phil?), and you got yourself a mighty winner.
