    Lest you think we’ve gotten soft with our chipsounds coverage, there is awesome news of a new peformance synth for Commodore Pet computers.

    It’s author writes:

    I’ve been sitting on this for a year, and I decided that it was finally time to unleash this puppy upon the world!

    It features a two-octave keyboard layout, selectable note length, many selectable octaves, selectable pulse-width, vibrato, distortion, and noise or “drum mode” depending on how you use it.

    All this without adding or hacking the Commodore PET in any way. Plus, it’s compiling from C, so it’s FAST – with very low latency.

    This computer does not use a SID 6581 music chip at all! This program was designed, tested, and refined on a real life fully working stock Commodore PET 4032 computer, and the sound is heard coming out of the built-in piezoelectric on the PET 4032 . It does not involve hacking the computer in any way, or adding any extra sound cards. It does not involve taking sound from the tape port. It also does not implement a DAC to create sounds.

  • Plogue chipsounds 1.0 appeared

    The long awaited Chip emulating vst from Plogue is finally out. Having had a chance to play with this, I can tell you the sound is up to snuff, surpassing other similar products, and its usuability gives real hardware a run for its money. You can read a healthy overview about the process behind the recreation over at CDM, or check out this blurb from the Plogue site after the jump.

  • SunVox updated to v1.4.5

    sunvox14_small

    The little modular synthesizer/tracker sequencer for various handhelds has a nice update.

    Warmplace provides the details:

    No iPhone version yet. But it will be available in the next few days (after Apple approval).

    New in this version:
    * new module: Vibrato;
    * added sinusoidal waveform to the “generator”;
    * added new effects 11 and 12 – fineslide up/down;
    * added new effect 20 – set the probability (0…8000) of a note being triggered; this effect is for unpredictable rhythms;
    * added new effect 21 – same as 20 but with random velocity;
    * added new example track: endless_song (based on new effect 20);
    * new functions in the “sampler”: resample; volume fade; waveform drawing (paint mode);
    * improved “transpose” function in the pattern editor;
    * pattern follow mode (only for single pattern playing);
    * sound engine optimization.

    rc4_control

    This extensively modeled all-purpose chip emulation system is coming out very soon. To celebrate this, there is a new EP made entirely with the plugin, featuring contributions from the Plogue beta team.

    Details:

    These tracks were made by the chipsounds beta team and really show the

    variety of styles and sounds that can be achieved with the software.

    The only guideline given was that the music’s chip content had to be made using chipsounds.

    We are really lucky to be surrounded with such talented musicians as testers!

    Thanks again to the entire chipsounds beta team!

    We hope you like it
