  • Chipsounds from Plogue Preview

A bit hyper overview of this long in the works chip vst workstation. Not much new from earlier news, but its worth keeping an eye on, at least.

For one thing, this isn’t your run of the mill plugin like Magical 8bit Plug or what have you… This shit’s as if the awesome from your childhood was concentrated to a weaponized level. Every emulation I’ve heard is spot-on, and I mean REALLY good! Everything you could hope for and more is within this plug. You’ve got your Atari, all variants of Nintendo’s PAPU’s, and I mean All. There’s Intellivision, Commodore 64 (which is the best damned emulation you’ll ever find, period) etc. etc., it’s just insane. If it makes chiptune, it’s in here. Plus, for the chips it applies to, you have NTSC, PAL or (cough atari cough) an unlimited mode, which puts it in tune! It’s almost frightening hearing a 2600 play a western scale! Freaky, huh?

  • Mario Paint Composer DS released

mpckeyboardHey people, long time no see!
I been pretty busy with work and stuff, but then again, since South America is not even considered part of the global chipmusic movement, who gives two shits? No need for me to post much here :P

Anyway, I recently acquired an Acekard 2 for my DS, and have been slowly trying to catch up with the homebrew movement (and Phoenix Wright games :P) and I stumbled upon this little fella here: a port of the Mario Paint music composer. Not a big fan of this little gimmick, but I presume some of you people will enjoy its cheesiness.

    Official blurb:

“Mario Paint Composer DS is an indirect remake of the music composer tool found in the Super Nintendo game “Mario Paint” with a few new adaptations which I added in from the PC version created by unFun Games (http://www.unfungames.com/). Please note, I am not responsible for the pc version, these two programs merely share the same name and that is all. This is not a direct port of any version, it is completely coded by myself.”

Paratrooopa has added a bunch of interesting new features and improvements and you can download the results clicking here.

  • Duty Cycle Generator Update Jungle Book! Niiju Drum Editor Appeared!

drumeditBehind the scenes of “the Jungle Book”

We’re coming towards the end of my NES music ‘nesography’ and I had a decision to make as to which game to do next. I’ll explain. By the end of 1992, Eurocom had expanded and diversified and we started working on Gameboy, Master System, PC & 3D0. We were approached by Virgin Interactive who had a Jungle Book game in development on Genesis/Megadrive but things weren’t going well and they were looking for an external team to take over the project and get it finished. Not having much to lose and because we saw it as a good opportunity to springboard onto the then new 16-bit platforms (Genesis/Megadrive and SNES – although we didn’t actually do the SNES version of this game) we jumped in with both feet. On the back of successfully finishing the project we had a 16-bit feather in our caps and were able to expand the company and move forward. It was a turning point for Eurocom – a real make-or-break moment.

And the release of NIIJU Drum Editor:

There are two drum sounds, DRUM0 and DRUM1 (just a limitation of the editor, you can have as many as you like inside Nijuu). The screen is split into two tables, the top one is for DRUM0 and the bottom for DRUM1. Going across the tables you have 3 values for Voice A “VA”, 3 values for Voice B “VB”, only one value for Voice C “VC” and two values for Voice D “VD”. Each drum sound lasts for 8 frames, each row of the table represents a frame and goes from top to bottom. At the bottom of the screen is a box that shows you what is currently in the copy buffer and also a message to remind you that you can access the (basic) help screen by pressing A on pad number 2…
