  • SCENE.ORG Awards: suggestions welcome!

Hey, it’s me again. Long time no see. Yeah, I know I bailed out on you all, but life’s busy. We’ll see how it changes.

Anyway, the Scene.org Awards are taking suggestions for nominations until January 5th!
How does it work? If you have a SceneID, you can log into  Pouet and suggest what you want for the different categories! Just browse to the 2010 production of your liking and scroll down to the bottom nominate it.

Hurry up, there’s not much time! After that I guess you can at least participate in the People’s Choice category (not open for voting yet)

  • YM-64, YM player for Commodore 64

This somehow passed under my radar.
YM-64 is a YM music player for the Commodore 64. It takes YM files and converts them either to a program or a SID file.
The problem I see at this moment is that I think the source code or tools to make this conversion are not available (yet?), however, you can get your ears wet with thousands of YM files already converted to SID or PRG form. I am just thinking there’s a bunch of cool cross-platform possibilities here, since the sound is not 100% exact, you could make new types of sounds in the C64 I believe. Also, YM/AY artists can compose for the C64 :D

You can mess around and change waveforms the emulator uses on the fly, also filter the sound. It’s kinda fun :P

Here’s the link to the player.

  • X’2010 round up part 1 – Graphics

The X demoparty in Holland happened last weekend, and like every time, it’ s the end-all be-all of Commodore 64 demoparties. Its legendary status has been gained for having breakthroughs in C64 coding happen every time it takes place, and this year it has been no different.

The number of releases in this edition has been very high, showing a welcome rise in C64 demoscene activity and it also has brought back into the scene a lot of well known names from back in the day, who were retired.

I’ll start up with gathering the releases happening in the GRAPHICS competition. I’ll show you my highlights after the jump, in reverse order of personal preference. You can compare with the actual X’ ranking to see how varied each person’s view can be:
